Living in Toledo, Washington
Toledo is a city in Lewis County, incorporated in 1892. It was named after a pioneer side wheel paddle steamer. Long before Toledo was settled, this area was home to the Cowlitz Indians, the major tribe in the area. Located near the Cowlitz River, as settlers began to move in, the riverboats replaced the small canoes and boats that were used by the Indians. Hence, the name of the town came about by the Joseph Kellogg & Company which operated many of the riverboats on the Cowlitz River. Toledo is a gateway to the Mount Saint Helens National Monument.
